Over the years, cruise lines have gotten more creative with how they differentiate the cruise experience, from spa facilities with dedicated restaurants to family accommodations with dedicated lounges, perks and concierge service. Then there’s the ship-within-a-ship concept — pioneered by Norwegian Cruise Line’s The Haven — which has emerged in many forms.
These distinctive, exclusive experiences are increasingly important to consumers, and Celebrity Cruises has taken note. The brand has announced a new dining experience for its suite passengers: Luminae. The exclusive Suite Class restaurant will be introduced on Celebrity’s fleet starting in April. It will offer eclectic, one-of-a-kind menus for breakfast, lunch and dinner without charge onboard Eclipse, Equinox, Silhouette, Solstice, Reflection, Constellation, Infinity, Millennium and Summit.
“The menus will be exquisite, and guests can choose from dishes such as caviar and creme fraiche; a creamy black truffle risotto with fricassee of wild mushrooms and Parmigiano-Reggiano; and a cote de bouef with roasted root vegetables and bearnaise sauce,” said John Suley, the line’s James Beard Award-nominated executive chef.
Desserts will feature dishes such as Suley’s favorite: mascarpone cheesecake and pistachio nougatine with yuzu brown butter and apricot sorbet. There will also be a special dessert cart that includes gourmet chocolates. Each menu choice will only be featured once during a two-week cruise, and the selections will take advantage of locally sourced regional and seasonal ingredients from Celebrity’s destinations.
“Everything about Luminae embodies an inspirational culinary journey for our guests,” Suley said. “We want them to savor soulful, technique-driven cuisine while enjoying warm and personalized service in a relaxed, stylish setting.”
Other special touches include tableside preparation of signature dishes and wine pairings made by the restaurant’s dedicated head sommelier. Specially designed for Luminae guests, the wine list will feature more than 400 selections, each from the most notable wine-producing countries in the world.
