Been There, Do This: Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival in San Francisco

By: Mindy Poder

Music festivals are only for college students, right? Think again. Sure, you see youthful faces at Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival in San Francisco, but you’ll also find the young at heart rocking out. That’s because Outside Lands doesn’t just offer Top 40 musicians: Nearly every year, one of the headliners is a music legend. Stevie Wonder, Elton John, Paul McCartney and Radiohead have all topped the bill before, and rumors are swirling that Radiohead will be reclaiming its role as headliner for this year’s ninth annual festival, August 5-7. Tickets have sold out increasingly earlier over the last five years, and if Radiohead is announced as a headliner, tickets might be gone before you have the chance to let clients know about the lineup.

Savvy agents — who understand that they can sell luxury hotels and other Bay Area experiences during a trip that involves Outside Lands — should let clients know that early three-day Eager Beaver general admission and VIP tickets, parking passes and shuttle passes are on sale starting at 10 a.m. PST on Thursday, March 31.

If purchasing a ticket for your client before the lineup is released makes you wary, you probably haven’t experienced Outside Lands’ differentiating factors. Though Outside Lands consistently produces one of the best lineups around, many choose this festival over others due to its local and artisanal food, wine and beer, its gorgeous location in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park and its laid-back ambiance. Food vendors are especially well-curated and represent the city’s diverse background, farm-to-table ethic and creativity.

Rather take your chances and wait for the epic reveal? A source close to the festival disclosed that the lineup will probably be announced as early as next week.
