From the outside, Piedmont Springs is unassuming. The small day spa in Oakland, Calif., is tucked snugly between a bookstore and a flower shop; nothing about its name suggests that this compact storefront is a quiet retreat from the hubbub just outside its doors.
But, inside, Piedmont Springs offers the chance to unplug and unwind. Guests can indulge in services and amenities including massages, skin care treatments, a cedar-lined sauna, a steam room and — the piece de resistance for me after a long workday — four private outdoor hot tubs. (The rate for an outdoor tub is $18 per hour, per person, and reservations are strongly recommended.)
After dinner and drinks nearby, a friend and I caught up on each other’s lives at Piedmont Springs, enjoying the bubbling water and a view of the night sky from our intimate alcove while sipping on complimentary tea. The spa, which is open every day from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., was the perfect end to a girls’ night out — and a hidden gem well worth uncovering.
