On a recent visit to Valencia, Spain, I had the opportunity to take a guided bike tour of the city with Do You Bike Rentals, a local operator. I don’t bike much at home, but I found this tour to be entertaining and informative — and, dare I say it, fun.
Do You Bike Rentals has three shops around Valencia, and each one offers bike sales, rentals and guided tours. The English-speaking staff is extremely friendly and welcoming to both experienced cyclists and total novices. There are pre-set tours and custom tours around the city, as well as multiday rides that go outside the city.
I took the three-hour Valencia Open Bike Tour that includes a ride through the old town of Valencia, the Turia Gardens and City of Arts and Sciences. The route we took was very flat — making for an easy ride — and I always felt safe thanks to well-marked, designated bike lanes. My guide, Paco, was easygoing, funny and didn’t mind stopping often to rest and take photos. It was fun, active and I felt like I got a great overview of the city from a true local.
Travel agents can contact the company and arrange a tour, or visitors can just show up and organize an impromptu excursion on the spot.
For clients looking for a unique way to learn about the city, I highly recommend Do You Bike Rentals. At the very least, it will give them an entertaining way to work off all the great Spanish food and wine they will enjoy on their trip.
