Monemvasia is located 99 mi/160 km south of Athens and is one of the most picturesque places in Greece. The old town is actually a fortress town, a perfectly preserved medieval settlement, albeit one inhabited by modern people. A bridge you can walk along connects the new town with the old one, a small islet linked to the mainland.
