Windstar did not make a profitable venture and was entirely taken over by Holland America Line by 1988, and both became subsidiaries of Carnival Corp. in 1989. In 2007, Windstar Cruises, which had dropped "Sail" from its name, was sold to Seattle-based Ambassadors International, which had previously owned the now-defunct Majestic America Line. Windstar came under new ownership again in June 2011, when Xanterra Parks & Resorts acquired it from Ambassadors International after Ambassadors filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. In 2013, Windstar purchased three ships from Seabourn Cruise Line—the Seabourn Pride, the Legend and the Spirit.
