Although the leeward side is sometimes considered Oahu's wild west, it includes the Ihilani JW Marriott Resort & Spa in Ko Olina, a luxury hotel accommodation that is the annual headquarters for the professional football players at the Pro Bowl. The Ihilani has a wonderful beach-side perspective, and its isolation makes it feel as though you're actually on a neighboring island.
On Oahu's windward side, however, there are quite a few bed-and-breakfast accommodations. Usually in quiet neighborhoods steps from windward beaches, these blend into the residential areas, and it's more of an ohana than a resort feeling that prevails. It's a different way to see Oahu. However, some of these vacation rentals and bed-and-breakfast establishments do not operate with the proper permits, so inquire when making a reservation.
