Pay particular attention to a hotel's location, as some are miles/kilometers from interesting cities or beaches, although some of these luxury hotels offer a full range of activities and restaurants and are ideal for those who don't want to leave the property.
Although many major hotels are located in the San Juan metro area, Puerto Rico has an array of properties around the island that visitors should explore, particularly on the west coast, dubbed as Porta del Sol. Many fine old private residences have been converted into guesthouses. Some are beautiful beach cottages, others plantation homes or former Spanish haciendas.
Of the 23 paradores on the island, the Parador Hacienda Gripinas, near Jayuya, is usually considered the nicest. Discounts are available on many of the island's hotel rooms from mid-June through mid-December.< Show Less
