Citing strong demand from consumers and the travel industry, Sanctuary Retreats opened the books this week on 2016 bookings for Sanctuary Ananada, the company’s new luxury boutique river cruiser.

Sanctuary Ananda is scheduled to sail on eight itineraries in Myanmar, including three-, four- and seven-night cruises. In advance of the scheduled maiden voyage from Mandalay to Bagan on Nov. 15, more than 100 travel agents and tour operators will sail on a series of inaugural cruises to experience firsthand the luxury appointments of the ship.

Construction of the 42-passenger Sanctuary Ananda was completed in 18 months and ahead of schedule. Two Burmese brothers oversaw the work of team of expert craftsmen at a Myanmar shipyard who used local techniques, indigenous woods, handmade fabrics and regional artifacts. The ship’s 21 suites are the largest suites of any river cruise ship sailing the Irawaddy River and feature floor-to-ceiling windows and full balconies. The staff-to-guest ratio on Sanctuary Ananda is 44 to 42, one of the highest in river cruising.
