Avalon Waterways launches two new Suite Ships this spring, the Avalon Poetry II and the Avalon Impression.
When the Avalon Illumination debuts in June there will be eight Suite Ships in Avalon’s fleet, adding nearly 10 percent more capacity to the 15-ship fleet.
“With two full decks of suites, nothing showcases the best of river cruising like our Suite Ships,” said Patrick Clark, Avalon’s managing director. “From bed and bathroom positioning to storage and sound-proof insulation, we provide cruisers a renewed feeling of freedom, space and comfort not found with other cruise lines.”
All suites feature Avalon’s signature sliding glass door that opens seven feet wide to create an open-air balcony. Each Suite Ship has a hair salon, Sky Deck whirlpool and Open-Air Bistro for outdoor grilled lunches. Fitness rooms on Suite Ships have been expanded to provide more floor space and additional equipment.
Katherine J. Grainger, the 2012 Olympic Gold medal-winning rower, is godmother to the Poetry II. Grainger, who also holds law degrees, recently completed a doctorate in homicide sentencing practices while finishing her autobiography, Dreams Can Come True.
J. Mara DelliPriscoli, president of Travel Learning Connections, Inc. and founder of the Educational Travel Conference (ETC), is godmother to Avalon Impression. DelliPriscoli’s ETC has grown from a 35-person meeting to an international conference with an audience of 450-plus attendees from over 40 countries, all dedicated to promoting lifelong learning through travel.
Australian media personality Deborah Hutton will be the Illumination’s godmother on the ship’s summer christening.
Poetry II and Impression will be christened together in Dordrecht, Holland on March 2 as part of four-day inaugural sailings from Cologne to Amsterdam.
