The HBO series, “Game of Thrones” has caught fire with the American viewing public in much the same way “The Sopranos” captured intense interest. More than 5.4 million people in the U.S. viewed the recent final episode of the show’s third season. Devotees of the series will welcome the news that San Francisco-based tour operator Viator has launched two new “Game of Thrones” tours that put travelers in the center of the popular epic fantasy adventure.
In Croatia, the “Game of Thrones Walking Tour of Dubrovnik” is a Viator exclusive. Many scenes from the series were filmed in Dubrovnik, and the tour is led by an expert guide who shares insider info on the series while telling tour participants all about the fictional city of King’s Landing. This takes place while exploring Dubrovnik’s UNESCO-listed Old Town, where “Game of Thrones” fans can climb the city walls and look out over Blackwater Bay, visit Lovrijenac Fortress to learn about the evil exploits of King Joffrey, and follow in the footsteps of Ayra Stark.
The “Game of Thrones and Giant’s Causeway Tour From Belfast” is a private exploration into the series and the settings filmed across Northern Ireland that includes a visit to the caves where Melisandre of Asshai gave birth to a “shadow baby” as well as the town of Ballycastle. Fans can pose for photos on the Dark Hedges road before crossing the Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge with a stop for lunch at picturesque Lordsport Harbour. This insider’s tour is followed by free time to explore the UNESCO-listed Giant’s Causeway.
The Dubrovnik tour starts at $73 per person, while the Belfast tour is from $113 per person.
Viator has several other entertainment-themed tours available throughout Great Britain, including the Downtown Abbey Film Locations Tour by Private Chauffeur, The Doctor Who Tour of London, the Harry Potter Black Taxi Tour of London and the Sherlock Holmes Film Location Tour in London.
