Virtuoso has released its list of the top summer destinations for wealthy travelers. The study, based on data from Virtuoso’s U.S. and Canada-based travel agency members, found that although European countries continue to be the most popular summer destinations, travel to Europe has decreased by 4 percent.
The U.K. has remained the most popular summer destination while Spain and Germany have increased in popularity by 4 and 7 percent, respectively. The study finds that this is due in part to the overall value of both Spain and Germany; the average daily rate for accommodation in Spain is about 35 percent lower than the European average of $761 per night, while Germany averages $419 per night, almost half the current European average.
The study has also noted the “Hot 10” destinations with the largest percentage of growth in year-over-year bookings. Australia has seen a 137 percent increase in bookings, while China follows at 101 percent, largely due to air travel to and from Hong Kong. Travel to Greece is also back on the rise with a 41 percent increase in bookings. Canada, also on Virtuoso’s top 10 list of popular summer destinations, has grown significantly with a 20 percent increase.
