TravelAge West Launches New Adventure Program

Award-winning edit and design team brings ‘Explorer’ to its readers


The award-winning editorial and design team responsible for longtime travel trade favorite TravelAge West is once again broadening its offerings with a new publication. Explorer will focus on the growing adventure and experiential travel markets and will provide its travel agent readers with inspiration, on-site reviews, packages, sales tools, products and more.

“As the world becomes smaller and exotic locales more reachable, the growing niche of adventure travel is an important segment for travel agents,” said Janeen Christoff, Managing Editor. “These days, the travel industry is witnessing incredible growth in the adventure travel market, and travelers are looking for more in-depth, unique experiences when they are planning a vacation. Our goal at Explorer is to provide our readers with tools and inspiration to increase this aspect of their businesses.”

The biannual, b-to-b publication will be distributed nationally to readers of TravelAge West and its sister publication Travel Weekly, both owned by parent company Northstar Travel Media, LLC. 

According to Christoff, Explorer will be the authority on adventure travel, experiential travel, soft adventure, eco-tourism and more, offering practical information for today’s travel agents.

“Stories will educate agents on this travel niche and provide selling tips in addition to offering valuable information for travelers interested in unique destination experiences,” said Christoff.

In 2013, the magazine’s issue dates are April 29 and Sept. 16.

“It’s really exciting to be able to bring this new product into the market,” said Christoff. “At TravelAge West, we believe that this is a growing segment in the travel market and that travel agents will have an incredible opportunity to learn through this publication.”
