Travel Alberta got Southern Californians in the mood for snow as a brilliantly, shiny snow-covered bus cruised through Los Angeles and Orange counties. The Stoked on Snow bus, covered with impressive attention-getting images of Alberta’s world-class ski and snowboarding terrains, let the public come onboard to investigate what both the bus and Alberta have to offer clients including information on the best ski destinations and even a chance to win a trip for two to ski the Canadian Rockies. Fifteen lucky participants got the chance to win this prize while touring the bus.
But getting on the bus wasn’t as easy as just climbing onboard. With new ways to market to travelers, Travel Alberta’s multi-interactive strategies definitely got the attention of local skiers and snowboarders inhabiting not-so-snow-covered Southern California. Curious passersby were required to use their smartphones to check into Facebook Places and update their Facebook or Twitter status to “I’m getting on the #stokedforsnow bus for a chance to win a ski trip.” This strategy enabled Travel Alberta to utilize the power of social media more effectively. Those who entered were able to chat and interact with other skiers and snowboarders, as well as learn about special vacation packages being offered from representatives of Alberta’s ski resorts.
“This event truly embodied what Alberta is — outgoing, dynamic and experiential,” said Wade Harper, Travel Alberta’s executive director of international marketing. “Albertans enjoy meeting people and sharing what we love about our province, and our world-class skiing and snowboarding resorts are a huge reason why people love Alberta.”
For those who didn’t win a trip giveaway, the Stoked for Snow website offers many vacation packages to all the Alberta Rocky Resorts from Lake Louise, Sunshine, Marmot, Nariska and Castle Mountain for deals that start as low as $100 depending on the resort and even student specials priced at $59.
