Recently opened in Carlsbad, Calif., the Park Hyatt Aviara Resort is a true California retreat, designed in the Spanish colonial style, and set off by palm trees, expansive gardens, rolling hills and views of the Pacific Coast. First opened in 1997, the resort spans 205 acres set on the northern shore of the Batiquitos Lagoon, one of California’s most precious, untouched wetlands and home to over 130 bird species and 24 varieties of flowering plants.

The resort features four restaurants, ranging from a poolside cafe, an airy bistro, a contemporary steakhouse, and an elegant dining room serving a regional Italian menu. All guestrooms feature a marble bathroom. Of the 329 rooms, 44 are suites and all rooms have a private balcony or a landscaped terrace.

With the expansive array of available activities, the Park Hyatt Aviara Resort is well situated for active and leisurely retreats. The resort boasts a 15,000-square-foot signature spa and fitness center; an 18-hole championship golf course (designed by Arnold Palmer and ranked as one of the top courses on the West Coast) complete with club-fitting and instruction offered at the Kip Puterbaugh Aviara Golf Academy and TaylorMade Performance Lab; six tennis courts, including two clay courts and four hard courts; and 78,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor meeting and event space.

For those wishing to explore the California coastline just beyond the hotel, the Park Hyatt Aviara offers its guests a Beach Butler who provides complimentary transportation to the beach (a 10-minute trip) with all the necessary amenities, as well as recommendations for aquatic activities such as kayaking, snorkeling and deep-sea fishing. Guests who wish to remain on the property can enjoy an arcade game room with traditional billiards, foosball, ping-pong tables, video games and air hockey; as well as an expansive recreation center that features open space for sand volleyball, lawn bowling, horseshoes, croquet and half-court basketball.
