Scheduled to open Aug. 6, the new Santa Monica Place mall aims to deliver a unique consumer environment for both Los Angeles-area locals and eager visitors alike. Located two blocks away from the Santa Monica Beach, the three-storied, 550,000-square-foot mall connects with the city’s iconic Third Street Promenade retail and restaurant area in the heart of Santa Monica’s thriving downtown.
Formerly an enclosed mall, the mall underwent a two-year major renovation. The new Santa Monica Place features a contemporary blend of specialty retailers, chef-driven restaurants, fast-casual dining options and The Market — a collection of gourmet and artisanal food purveyors — with ocean breezes and views thanks to its new open-air walkways and spaces.
In addition to the project’s two anchor department stores — Bloomingdale’s and Nordstrom — the 80-plus specialty retailers set to fill the mall’s open-air walkways include Michael Kors, Coach, Betsey Johnson, Tiffany & Co. and True Religion will decorate the first two levels of the outdoor establishment.
The mall’s developers also hope that the venue will be known for offering more than just a simple shopping experience. The complex offers a third-level rooftop Dining Deck to take advantage of the city’s moderate weather. On Fridays, a SunSets on the rooftop series will feature local KCRW radio disc jockeys to accompany early-evening cocktail and appetizer receptions.
