The Island Hotel Newport Beach has been undergoing refurbishment since late 2005, when The Irvine Company took over the property, and the final phase has recently been completed. The newly renovated hotel’s 295 rooms, as well as the popular Palm Terrace Restaurant & Lounge, now exude a tropical island and “urban oasis” theme.
The new-and-improved Island Hotel Newport Beach features amenities such as a 4,000-square-foot spa; a 3,000-square-foot resort-style pool; a fitness center; two outdoor, lighted tennis courts; and over 30,000 square feet of meeting space.
The hotel was also just awarded the Automobile Association of America’s (AAA) coveted Five Diamond status for its 17th consecutive year.
“We are thrilled to unveil the ‘new Island’ and to set exacting new standards for business and leisure travelers in Southern California,” said Richard Evanich, the hotel’s managing director. “This is an exciting time for us, as we continue to raise the bar for luxury, service and amenities in Orange County and beyond.”
Contemporary paintings, golden and verdant color pallets, combined with imagery reminiscent of the rainforest, set the tone for a new, island-inspired look. Meeting rooms are also decked with tropical flavor and finished off with skylights to infuse California’s sunshine.
Suites and guestrooms now feature new Stearns & Foster beds, glass lamps, retooled marble-clad bathrooms and the latest technology, including wireless Internet access, 42-inch plasma screen HD televisions with DVDs/CD stereo systems, Bose 321 audio systems and cable service with HD service.
The Palm Terrace Restaurant & Lounge has been adorned with interior and exterior plants to exude the tropical and urban oasis theme. Hand-hammered bronze hardware, lamp bases and pale rattan and bamboo accents on select furnishings show an attention to detail.
