Japengo, a new restaurant at Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort and Spa, is opening its doors on Oct. 19, 2011. Visitors can find it on the third floor of the hotel's Ewa Tower.

Featuring flavors from such Pacific countries as Thailand, Japan, Vietnam, Korea and China, Japengo promises innovative cocktails, expertly rolled sushi and a menu of exotic flavors.

The contemporary design of the restaurant includes communal tables, an interactive sushi bar and lounge, private dining rooms and intimate tables for two.

“Our restaurant is based on the same concepts as the award-winning Japengo Restaurants found on Maui and La Jolla," said Hyatt Regency Waikiki executive chef Sven Ullrich. "However, the people who live in or visit Oahu are not the same as in other Japengo locations. Our menu is therefore distinctively Pacific Rim for Waikiki."

Featuring local ingredients and drawing on authentic ethnic flavors from several countries, the menu boasts such items as traditionally hand rolled Japanese sushi and South Korean short rib kalbi.

Japengo is open Wednesdays through Sundays from 6-10 p.m. Craft cocktails and sake are available in the lounge.
