The Details

Adding to its cultural offerings, Kualoa recently launched a new pond boat inspired by the Hokulea, a famous replica of an ancient Polynesian voyaging canoe. Kualoa is a northeast Oahu attraction providing a variety of tours and activities.

Called the Moku Kahai, the double-hulled flat bottom boat enhances Kualoa’s existing Ocean Voyaging tour, providing guests the opportunity to learn about ancient sailing traditions. Builders used the molds from the Hokulea for the new boat's hulls, and it took over a year to complete it.

“Many hours of dedication, labor and love went into this endeavor,” said Kualoa president John Morgan. "The Moku Kahai will give guests an authentic experience and opportunity to learn more about Polynesian sailing techniques and ancient Hawaii.”

During Kualoa’s Ocean Voyaging tour, guests ride the pond boat from the Molii Mauka Boat Dock over the Molii Fishpond to the Secret Island Makai Pier, where they catch the catamaran for the ocean tour.
