Hawaii Sports Connection, producer of the annual Lavaman Waikoloa, and Keauhou Resort announce the inaugural Lavaman Keauhou, a new triathlon to add to the island's race calendar on September 13, 2009.
Lavaman Keauhou, an Olympic distance 1.5k swim, 40k bike and 10k run, traverses a course steeped in Hawaiian history. Elite triathletes, age groupers of all levels and relay teams will enjoy the debut of this scenic course. The new two-lap course will be a crowd favorite as they'll be able to watch the athletes from several vantage points.
"Unveiling our second Lavaman race in Keauhou is thrilling for us. Over the past eleven years, Lavaman has dedicated its resources to upholding the tradition of great triathlons here on the Big Island. Lavaman Waikoloa opens triathlon season, and Lavaman Keauhou, scheduled the month prior to Ironman, will add tremendous excitement to end of season racing," said Hawaii Sports Connection founder Gerry Rott.
Like its popular counterpart in Waikoloa, Lavaman Keauhou will include events for the whole family. Friday kicks off with the Lavaman Keauhou Expo that will include sport product and sponsor booths and race day packets. LavaKids take center stage on Saturday with fun events and a special LavaKids Dash for those keiki under 7.
"The vision we have for lands of Keauhou reflects a deep cultural connection to the ancients who came before us," said Greg Chun, President, Keauhou Resort. "We are very supportive of Lavaman Keauhou and believe it will strengthen the ties of a healthy community."
Lavaman Keauhou is slated for September 13, 2009 and in keeping with Lavaman tradition, will include an awards party and banquet, complete with live music, fun, great food and camaraderie for volunteers and athletes.
