Maui Prince Hotel

The Maui Prince Hotel has dodged a bullet.

After announcing last week that it would close on Sept. 16 along with an adjacent golf course, the southwest Maui property is remaining open as a new management team prepares for transition.

Wells Fargo Bank foreclosed on the resort on Aug. 24. On Sept. 8, a Maui court approved a plan to keep the property open and appointed Benchmark Hospitality International as its manager. Benchmark also manages Oahu's Turtle Bay Resort.

“The threat of closing has disappeared,” said Wells Fargo Bank attorney Barry Sullivan. “We are confident there will be a smooth transition to the new resort management company.”

Sources said the hotel will have a new name on Sept. 17.
