Kahala Hotel and Resort

As Valentine's Day approaches, the Kahala Hotel and Resort is suggesting a number of romantic ways for loved ones to pop the question at the luxury Honolulu property.

Perhaps the groom-to-be would like to glide up to the Kahala shoreline in a canoe, engagement ring in hand. A conch shell blower announces his approach, and a Hawaiian sunset provides a dramatic backdrop as he asks for his beloved's hand in marriage.

Since Chinese New Year falls on Valentine's Day this year, clients can meld the two holidays as they consider their future together. The Kahala can create a larger-than-life fortune cookie hiding the engagement ring and a "will you marry me?" message. Agents can even line up a traditional Chinese lion dance for the couple, welcoming them to a lifetime of good fortune.

Making the most of its oceanfront setting, the Kahala can also create a love letter in the sand for the couple, complete with candles, roses and a ring sculpture on the beach.

No matter how they decide to become engaged, couples can book the Kahala for Lovers package and get champagne and chocolate-covered strawberries, a dinner at Hoku's restaurant and daily breakfast buffet. The rate for three nights is $1,335, good through March 14.
