Grand Wailea Spa Grande // (c) Grand Wailea
Grand Wailea's newest treatment takes its inspiration from one of Hawaii's precious natural products: olivine crystals, known locally as Hawaiian diamonds. Considered in legend as the tears of the Volcano goddess Pele, the precious stones appear in Hawaii near lava and the sea.
Infused with techniques from the East, West and Hawaii, the treatment is offered at the Maui resort's Spa Grande.
First, clients are covered in a special botanical blend of hot oil. The body is then sprinkled with a healing Hawaiian herbal powder made of various local ingredients, followed by a long-stroke massage.
Hot linens infused with therapeutic Hawaiian herbal essential oils are placed on the body and the combined herbs ease muscular pain and repair damaged tissue and bones.
Next comes a massage during which olivine-filled pouches are used to increase circulation and enhance muscle strength.
Finally, warm herbal oils are applied to the scalp and hair for relaxation and restoration of moisture.
The 80-minute treatment costs $285.
