Sun Valley Starts Construction on New Gondola

The new gondola will open on Bald Mountain this winter

Sun Valley has announced that a new gondola will open on Bald Mountain this winter, adding to the resort's amenities, terrain, and setting. Originating at the base of River Run and climbing to the Top Terminal Plaza at the historic Roundhouse Restaurant, the Doppelmayr CTEC Detachable-Grip, Eight- Passenger Gondola will carry 1800 passengers per hour, traveling 2,000 vertical feet in eight minutes. Fifty-six, eight passenger cabins will service skiers, snowboarders and foot passengers.

North America's largest gondola construction, the project includes two terminals, new restrooms, and new access to this one of a kind restaurant and mountain. The Roundhouse, traditionally open just for lunch during the winter, will begin year round lunch and dinner service once the gondola is open.

Construction is ahead of schedule for the gondola and should be completed by the opening of the upcoming ski season, which traditionally starts on Thanksgiving Day.

Sun Valley Resort webcams are now monitoring the construction project.
