Members of the San Francisco branch of the Skal Club, an organization of travel industry professionals, joined together with a group of travel executives from San Jose to help package food at the San Francisco Food Bank this August. Along with other volunteers, they helped to sort 34,000 pounds of donated goods. The Skal crew then measured 300 pounds of rice into one-pound bags and then sealed and labeled them.
Among the volunteers were John Semone, PATA, retired; Melita Thorpe MWT Associates travel agency, San Jose; Les Burger, Ladera Travel, Menlo Park; Don Langley, former editor, TravelAge West; Nahid Olfati, Asseman Sky Travel, San Francisco; Sue Eschelbach, Ethan Allen Travel, San Mateo; Kirsti Maki, Finnair; and Paul Roos, Sunset magazine, retired.
