Butte, Mont. is rolling out the welcome mat for fans of its hometown hero — motorcycle daredevil Evel Knievel. During the last weekend in July, Butte will celebrate Evel Knievel Days with a parade, fireworks, music, daredevil stunts, a classic motorcycle and car show and a new EVELexhibit.
This is a chance to learn about the man who riveted a nation with his death-defying motorcycle stunts, including the bus jump at Wembley Stadium in London, the jump of the fountains at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas and the attempt to jump the Snake River Canyon in Idaho.
The event is timed to attract motorcycle riders on their way to the Sturgis Rally, as well as visitors to Big Sky Country, Yellowstone and Glacier National Park.
Along with its proud connection to the late daredevil, Butte is famous for copper mining and having the largest Historic Landmark District in the West.
