Construction began on the Las Vegas strip this month for SkyVue, slated to become the largest observation wheel in the Western Hemisphere. Located directly across from Mandalay Bay, the wheel will open July 4, 2013, towering 500 feet above the Strip.
“The observation wheel is the perfect complement to the Strip, fueling both an economic impact for our community and creating a unique addition to globally-renowned entertainment offerings,” said Howard Bulloch, developer of SkyVue. “With incomparable views and an impeccable design, SkyVue will be the must-see attraction next year.”
The wheel will feature 32, 24-person gondolas, with two HD LED Multi Media displays at the center of the wheel measuring 50,000 square feet apiece, or the length of 2 football fields. The signs will be the world’s largest displays, and will feature visuals for the Strip and beyond.
Each 30-minute ride in the gondolas will offer spectacular views of the Las Vegas skyline, and guests will even have the opportunity to rent a gondola for private events, complete with catering services. The project will also bring 200,000 square feet of retail space and an additional 20,000 square feet for conventions.
