The Las Cruces Railroad Museum in Las Cruces, N.M., is hosting its third annual Railroad Days from May 6-8. The annual event will also recognize the depot’s addition to the National Register of Historic Places as well as its recent acquisition of a 1909 wooden caboose during a welcome ceremony to be held at 10 a.m. on May 8. The historic deport will also feature events and activities for train enthusiasts, including a special appearance by the New Mexico Rail Runner Express on May 8.
Model train layouts from the Dona Ana Modular Railroad Club will be on display inside the museum and attendees can also interact with Harvey Girls re-enactors from the Railroad and Transportation Museum of El Paso to learn more about early railroad life in New Mexico.
The New Mexico Tourism Department will also be on hand with its own Van of Enchantment mobile visitor center, and attendees can also partake in various musical entertainment, including an Old West medicine show, a one-act play about orphan trains and a performance by the Vista Vibrations Bell Choir.
