For 2010, the town of Taos, N.M. has unveiled a new tourism campaign: “Escape the Modern Day. Rejuvenate in Taos. Return to Sacred Places.” The campaign encourages travelers to escape modern-day stresses and to make a journey of self discovery while in Taos.

“Everyone loves getting away for a vacation — especially when it involves rest, relaxation and rejuvenation,” said Taos public relations director Cathy Connelly. “We’re encouraging people to take a truly one-of-a-kind vacation this year — one where they connect with what is important to them. Taos provides something for everyone in a low-key, non-urban, relaxing and rejuvenating, awe-inspiring setting.”

Taos’ sacred places can be found throughout the city, from well-traveled roads and its historic Taos Pueblo to art galleries.

The 2010 calendar of events includes the 40th anniversary commemoration of the return of Blue Lake to Taos Pueblo, a UNESCO Living World Heritage Site. Other events and festivals can be found online at www.taosvacationguide.com and/or www.taosnews.com/calendar.

The new tourism campaign also includes a travel sweepstakes. Travelers are invited to enter online for the trip, which includes roundtrip airfare/transportation for two, accommodations for four nights, dining, spa services, Taos Pueblo and museum admissions and more. Sweepstakes rules are posted online at www.taossacredplaces.com/about/win-a-trip, and the sweepstakes ends on Aug. 31.
