Astoria is hosting two upcoming events celebrating the glories of the sea.

During the 13th annual Fisher Poets Gathering from Feb. 26-28, scores of commercial fishermen and women dock their boats and pick up the microphone at gatherings in restaurants, pubs, museums and performance venues. Inspired by earning a living in the fishing industry and life on the water, the performers share emotional poems, rowdy rhymes and humorous readings. With its rich maritime history and heritage as the former canning capitol of the world, Astoria is a perfect backdrop for this celebration of fishing culture. Weekend admission buttons are available for a small fee.

Then, from April 23-25, clients can join in on the 28th annual Astoria-Warrenton Crab, Seafood and Wine Festival. The highlight of the three-day jamboree is a traditional crab dinner featuring local fresh-caught Oregon Dungeness crab alongside fresh shrimp, salmon, oysters, halibut, clam chowder and other delicacies. Visitors can listen to live music, enjoy handcrafted art, sip locally brewed craft beer and savor Pacific Northwest wine during this family-friendly festival at the Clatsop County Fairgrounds. Tickets are $8 per person on Friday, $10 on Saturday and $5 on Sunday, with weekend passes available.
