In Good Taste

Bob's Red Mill
Foodies who flock to Portland on dining vacations can now return home with cooking skills of their own thanks to programs from two veteran culinary schools that offer fun and practical one-time classes ranging from cooking basics to thematic courses.

One of Portland’s best-known cooking schools, In Good Taste, has begun to pair farmers’ market tours with cooking classes at its Pearl District and Lake Oswego locations. Participants are taken on a guided shopping experience and then led through a hands-on class teaching them how to utilize seasonal produce. These classes are accompanied by wine pairings, which are often chosen from local wineries.

One of Greater Portland’s best-kept secrets is the affordable cooking classes at the Bob’s Red Mill Whole Grain Store and headquarters in Milwaukie, Ore. Inside the visitor’s center, surrounded by hundreds of flours, gluten-free ingredients and a café, classes are taught by local gastronomes. Past instructors have included James Beard Award-winning chef Cory Schreiber and cookbook author Ivy Manning.
