Portland’s abundant public art is gaining visibility thanks to a pair of attractive new resources.
The Guide to Portland Public Art brochure is available at no charge at the Visitor Information Center and is downloadable as a PDF. Produced by the Regional Arts & Culture Council (RACC) and Travel Portland, it features more than 100 permanent works of art on a central city map, including details on indoor art and a section on art along the Transit Mall.
The Public Art PDX iPhone app brings the information from the printed piece — and more — directly to smartphone users. Created by Portland app developer Matt Blair in collaboration with the mayor’s office, RACC and the Bureau of Technology Services, the free app features hundreds of works throughout the city, including sculptures, murals, tapestries and fountains.
True to Portland’s do-it-yourself spirit, users are invited to suggest art to add to the app and provide information about the location of artworks to make the data more precise.
