The upcoming 14th annual Pickathon, an Indie Roots music festival, takes place Aug. 3-5, 2012, at Pendarvis Farm near Portland.
The list of 50 musical groups playing this year includes Neko Case, Blitzen Trapper, Dr. Dog, Vieux Farka Touré, Typhoon, the Cave Singers, Kitty, Daisy and Lewis and dozens more.
But Pickathon isn't your average music festival. Instead, the tuneful annual event celebrates sustainability, so much so that it's operated using renewable energy.
Along with its stellar lineup, the mission of the festival expands upon its revolutionary no-single-use policy. In fact, Pickathon is the only festival to eliminate single-use beer cups, water bottles, dishware, utensils and containers.
Pickathon encourages its attendees to take alternative transportation and urges people to camp on-site during the three-day festival.
Full festival passes are on sale now for $190 per person, which includes the 50 shows as well as a campsite. Single-day tickets will go on sale closer to the event, and children 12 and under get in for free.
