Live jazz is never far away in Portland thanks to ongoing performances at clubs and restaurants like Jimmy Mak’s and Wilf’s. But each February the horns, beats and voices of local and national acts take over small and large venues alike for the annual Portland Jazz Festival, slated for Feb. 17-26, 2012.
Highlight performances this year include Branford Marsalis and Joey Calderazzo Duo; Roy Haynes Quartet; Dee Dee Bridgewater in a tribute to Billie Holiday; Bill Frisell in a tribute to John Lennon, Speedy West and Jimmy Bryant; and Thara Memory, a longtime Portland performer and teacher who has played with Dizzy Gillespie and James Brown and earned esteem as Esperanza Spalding’s teacher and mentor.
Visitors looking to time their Portland visit to hit one of the Jazz Fest weekends can enjoy 10 percent off concert tickets by booking a stay at a preferred Jazz Festival hotel.
For even more savings, visitors can select participating Portland Perks hotels, which include complimentary overnight parking (average savings of $25 per night) and breakfast for two, as well as discounts on local shopping and dining.
