Portland’s historic West End, home to a growing number of independent boutiques, restaurants, cafes and hotels, now offers a traveler’s aide in the form of a new website.
With an interactive map, business listings and social media feeds, the website helps visitors explore this booming neighborhood with ease. A printed walking map will also be available in businesses throughout the area.
Tucked between Powell’s City of Books and the downtown retail core, the West End includes the Ace, Crystal and Mark Spencer hotels, award-winning restaurants, independent fashion boutiques, local artisan and international design shops, and a music label, all featured on the website.
New attractions continue to bring vitality to the neighborhood, with recent arrivals that include Animal Traffic (a second location of the popular North Mississippi Avenue vintage and Western boutique); renowned chef Chris Israel’s new Mexican eatery, Corazon; and the gallery/performance space of the Portland Institute for Contemporary Art.
The sister-owned local favorite Ruby Jewel Scoop Shop just opened a second location at Southwest 12th Avenue and Stark Street, offering small-batch seasonal ice cream, a vintage soda fountain and candy-making on view. On the horizon, Cheryl’s on 12th will soon offer home-style Italian fare.
