Portland’s hot shopping area in the West End of downtown just upped its chic factor.

The new Black Box building at Southwest 13th Ave. and West Burnside St. recently opened, and it hosts five local and international fashion boutiques worth checking out.

Among the retail options is Isaac Hers, with its curated selection of jewelry, accessories and clothing, much of which is designed in the open studio within the shop.

Around the corner, Tanner Goods, Portland’s own leather company, stocks belts, wallets and bags, as well as footwear for men.

Dunderdon, a Swedish company with clothing both stylish and utilitarian, is just next door.

The Seattle boutique Blackbird opened its second location in the Black Box, and almost immediately it was written up in GQ magazine. The sleek store carries mens wear, accessories and apothecary lines.

The final store to move into Black Box is Solestruck shoes, which is set to open in fall 2011.
