BestCities — the first global alliance to create a certification program to ensure that international meeting destination cities maintain a consistent level of excellence — has chosen Houston to join the alliance. Houston will be the first U.S. city selected for the partnership, joining nine other international destinations.
“Qualifying for BestCities membership is a major coup for Houston,” said Greg Ortale, president and CEO of the Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau. “We’re in great company with these incredible cities, and we look forward to showcasing Houston to the world through this global alliance.”
Criteria for joining BestCities includes world-class convention facilities and a minimum of 10,000 hotel rooms, as well as a record of hosting international meetings and conventions. BestCities also looks for cities with professional convention bureaus firmly dedicated to quality assurance and client focus. Partner cities in the alliance share the costs of international promotion, as well as leads for convention business, thus boosting Houston’s opportunities in the international convention market.
