The Details

Tracy Aviary, located in Salt Lake City, is introducing its new Owl Forest exhibit in style this fall. From Oct. 22-23 and 29-31, the aviary is hosting a Halloween Hoot event with scary story-telling sessions, Halloween crafts, a bird show, face painting and trick-or-treating.

Halloween Hoot takes place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $7 per adult and $5 per child. Those in costume receive $1 off admission.

The Owl Forest is situated in a grove of more than 100 native conifers, immersing each visitor in a forest atmosphere. A total of 13 North American owls — including a short-eared owl, a screech owl, a great-horned owl and a saw-whet owl — are calling the aviary their new home. The owls, which were injured in the wild, have been cared for at rehabilitation facilities before making their way to the Owl Forest.

According to the “Salt Lake Tribune,” the Owl Forest is part of an ongoing Tracy Aviary upgrade and renovation, paid for by a $19.6 million bond, approved by Salt Lake County voters in 2008.
