Twelve-hundred pounds of dough, 1,000 pounds of chocolate, 800 pounds of icing and hundreds of pounds of candy for decoration. That’s what it takes to host the annual Gingerbread Village, on view in the lobby of the Sheraton Seattle Hotel from Nov. 25-Jan. 4. Now in its 16th year, the special event features elaborate gingerbread displays and holiday creations reflecting a specific theme (this year it’s A Superhero Holiday). Free and open to the public daily, the village draws more than 100,000 visitors to the downtown hotel for a look at the creations, designed by the city’s top architecture firms and trade associations. Donations are accepted, benefiting the Northwest Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
