Sagecliffe Resort, a destination winery resort located in the Columbia River Valley, has expanded its lodging options by offering 25 new luxury yurts to guests. Called Chiwana Village at Sagecliffe, the yurts have been open since early July 2010.

“We are thrilled to be able to offer our guests this fun, new lodging option,” said Sagecliffe Resort general manager John Mark. “Yurts offer the best of both worlds for people who like to be close to nature, while maintaining a certain level of comfort and access to all of the Sagecliffe amenities.”

Along with Chiwana Village, Sagecliff is comprised of Cave B Inn at Sagecliffe, Cave B Winery, Tendrils Vineyard Restaurant and the Spa at Sagecliffe.

Named after the Wanapum tribe’s name for the Columbia River, Chiwana Village is nestled in the vineyards of the Cave B Estate Winery, perched 900 feet above the Columbia River Gorge. Each yurt features a king bed, seating area, private bath, refrigerator, iPod docking station, sky-dome and patio. A few yurts are wheelchair accessible and some offer wi-fi access.

The new lodging option at Sagecliffe allows clients to sleep under starry skies, smell the nearby sage and enjoy the sounds of nature, while not straying too far from accustomed creature comforts. Guests staying in the yurts enjoy full access to the amenities found on property, including an outdoor pool, wine tasting room, full-service restaurant, spa and hiking trails. Chiwana Village guests can also enjoy a bocce ball court, the use of complimentary mountain bikes, a horseshoe pit and picnic grounds.

With environmental sensitivity a paramount factor, the yurts were manufactured by Seattle’s Rainier Industries, which has achieved the premier certification for environmental stewardship. All yurt framework is made from sustainable Douglas fir. Low-flow toilets and showerheads and on-request linen service have been put in place to reduce water waste.

Chiwana Village will end its 2010 season in October. In the future, the season will run from May-October. Nightly rates for a yurt start at $175, based on double occupancy.
