Earlier this month, Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide opened Le Meridien Shimei Bay Beach Resort & Spa, its first five-star resort to open in Wanning City on China’s Hainan Island. The China Resources Holdings Co.-owned property is the latest in a string of Starwood-branded hotels to open in the region.
“We are very excited to open in Shimei Bay, which is a new destination for the traveler to discover on Hainan Island, and will become a stunning option for our sophisticated, forward-thinking guests,” said Terry Ko, general manager. “We are committed to providing them with an interactive and a culturally enriching experience.”
The property is set alongside three miles of beaches, surrounded by a forest and offering views of the South China Sea. It offers guests 275 guestrooms, including 25 villas, all with private balconies that overlook the sea or the mountains.
There are three restaurants and three lounges on-site as well. At the hotel’s all-day dining restaurant, Breakers, chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten has created a signature breakfast menu that complements the eatery’s Western, continental and Asian cuisine. Ai Mei Chinese restaurant offers popular dishes from the mainland, including Cantonese and Hainan specialties, and the Horizon Bar + Grill offers poolside fare and signature cocktails.
The new Le Meridien also houses a 3,700-square-foot Spa with six spa villas, each with individual dipping pools, steam rooms and cabanas. The spa also offers luxury suites, massage rooms, a hair salon, a Spa boutique and a Spa bistro.
