In a bid to boost tourism this fall, Tourism Malaysia recently launched a special program coordinated with the region’s tour operators offering more than a half-dozen packages for adventurous travelers featuring everything from eight-day, six-night leisure packages with sightseeing tours to diving packages in Borneo and golfing packages that include four rounds of golf green fees.

“This is the first time in several years we have coordinated this type of effort with our tour operators to offer something that fits everyone’s budget and taste,” said Mohamed Amin Yahya, vice president of Western U.S. and Latin America, Tourism Malaysia.

Among leisure packages is a six-night stay at the five-star Pan Pacific that includes daily breakfast, half-day city tour, half-day countryside tour and a full-day excursion to Malacca. Offered through Solutions Travel Service, the package is $799 per person, double, with airfare and transfers included. An eight-day introductory tour of Kuala Lumpur is offered through Vacationland, with a half-day city tour, half-day countryside tour to the Batu Caves, an introduction to Malaysia arts and handicrafts and a full-day excursion to Malacca from $999, per person, double, with airfare, transfers, hotel taxes and service charges.

For romantic getaways, Gobundle is offering a Malaysia Romance package that includes two nights at Dorsett Regency in Kuala Lumpur, three nights at Pelangi Beach Resort in Langkawi, a half-day Kuala Lumpur city tour, a Langkawi island tour, and daily breakfast. From $1,099 per person, double, with airfare and transfers included, optional add-on tours are available for additional cost.

The Malaysia Explorer package through SITA World Travel offers a full-day excursion to Malacca to visit architecture from the Portuguese and Dutch during their colonial rule and the popular Jonker Street famous for its antiques and handicraft. A short flight to Kuching, the capital of Sarawak, offers a half-day tour, and a longboat ride on the Lemanak River offers tours of native longhouses. The package starts at $1,645, per person, double, with airfare, transfers and taxes included.

For sports travelers, two dive packages offer deep-blue diversity. A dive package in Sabah through Scuba Travel Ventures features six nights at Borneo Divers Mabul Resort with three boat dives per day, unlimited shore dives and all meals from $1,899 per person, double. Travel Masters, meanwhile, offers a seven-night stay at Sipadan Water Village in Borneo that includes six days of three-tank boat dives and daily shore diving, and all meals, as well as one night in Kota Kinabalu, the capital of the Malaysian island of Sabah. The package starts at $2,695 per person, double, with airfare, airline/hotel taxes and airport transfers included.

Golfers can tee off in the cool highlands or by the fringe of the South China Sea, in an ITC Golf Tours package that includes four rounds of golf green fees and cart, six nights at the Renaissance Hotel superior room, daily breakfast, and a half-day sightseeing tour for $1,516 per person, double, airfare and transfers included.
