New Hotels Open in Asia

In time for the holidays, new hotels are popping up all over Asia. Anantara recently opened its first property in China and its 20th property overall, with the launch of the brand new Anantara Sanya Resort & Spa on Hainan Island.

Hainan Island is known as a tropical destination in Asia, and Sanya is renowned for its year-round warm weather and its stunning coastline. Some of Sanya’s hidden gems are now part of the Anantara Sanya guest experience, including visiting the indigenous Li clan tribe, where the women are known for their stunning weaving skills as well as their uniquely tattooed faces.

The Minor Hotel Group, in partnership with Serendib Leisure, has recently announced the opening of its second Avani resort — Avani Kalutara Resort & Spa, on Sri Lanka’s southwest coast.

Formerly known as Kani Lanka, the resort has reopened after a $5 million renovation and refurbishment. Located a one-hour drive south of the island’s capital, Colombo, and approximately a 2½-hour drive from Bandaranaike International Airport, Avani Kalutara is built on the mouth of the Kalu River, facing the lagoon in one direction and the Indian Ocean on the other.

Design Hotels also welcomes a new member to its collection. The recently opened Gate Hotel Kaminarimon offers a gateway to the Asakusa district of Tokyo. The former office building was transformed into a hotel by Shigeru Uchida, one of the country’s most famous architects. The hotel is across from the Kaminarimon (Thunder) Gate, and the Sensoji Temple and Asakusa shrine are also nearby.

Parkroyal will also open a new hotel before the end of the year. Parkroyal on Pickering is the flagship Parkroyal hotel under the Parkroyal Hotels & Resorts portfolio managed by the Pan Pacific Hotels Group. Designed by award-winning architectural firm WOHA, the hotel has adopted hotel-in-a-garden concept and incorporates energy-saving features throughout the property. The hotel is strategically located at the key gateways to Singapore’s central business district, Hong Lim Park and bustling Chinatown.
