The Japanese Tourism Agency (JTA) has awarded the El Monte, Calif.-based tour operator, Super Value Tours (also known as Supernet Tour & Travel), with a 2009 JTA Award. Local Japanese transport agencies and tourist institutions nominated 117 candidates for the award, which recognizes outstanding contributions to Japan’s tourism industry. The JTA Director Commendation Auditing Committee declared only 12 finalists as winners, with Super Value Tours being the only North American tour operator among the winners.
The JTA, whose objective is to promote Japan as a tourist destination, aims to welcome 10 million overseas tourists and travelers by the end of 2010. Super Value Tours was recognized by the JTA not just for its affordability, but its commitment to public awareness for travel to Japan, which has led to measurable increases in the number of U.S. tourists visiting Japan. In one year alone, 18,000 people visited Japan with Super Value Tours, many of whom found the company through word-of-mouth referrals.
Roy Liao, project director of Super Value Tours, expressed the unfortunate yet common misconception that traveling to Japan must be expensive: “Japan is such a culturally beautiful destination and it’s disappointing to hear this apprehension inhibiting travelers. We are committed to dispelling this myth and are proud to offer packages which maintain a high level of quality and cost-effectiveness. We love introducing Japan to our guests and it is a true honor to be recognized by the Japan Tourism Agency.”
