Ritz Tours has introduced a 12-day Yangtze Essence program for the winter that combines stays in Beijing, Xian and Shanghai with a Yangtze River journey.

Beginning in Beijing, tour highlights include visits to Tiananmen Square, the ancient Forbidden City and a stroll through the grounds at the Summer Palace and Kunming Lake. The journey continues with a visit to the historic Great Wall and stops at the Ming Tomb Museum and the Temple of Heaven.

Several days in Xian offer the chance to see Emperor Qin Shi Huang’s Terra Cotta Warriors, the ancient City Wall and the Big Wild Goose Pagoda. Evening dining and entertainment includes an Imperial Dumpling Banquet and Tang Dynasty Stage Opera performance.

The Yangtze cruise is onboard a deluxe Victoria Cruises vessel and travels between Chongqing and Yichang, offering view of forest-covered mountains and the steep cliffs of the Three Gorges. The cruise offers excursions as well as onboard lectures, cultural presentations and demonstrations, and entertainment.

Ending with several nights in Shanghai, tours include the Yu Garden, Nanjing Road, and the Bund, Shanghai’s picturesque waterfront area.

Priced from $1,699 plus taxes per person/double, the tour includes roundtrip airfare from Los Angeles or San Francisco ($1,849 per person/double from JFK in New York), airfare between cities in Asia; hotel accommodations, sightseeing in air-conditioned coaches, meals and entertainment and tour guides.

Departures are available Dec. 1 and Dec. 29. Next year, departures are Jan. 5, Jan. 19, Feb. 2, Feb. 16 and Feb. 23.
