While most travelers associate Bonaire with diving and water sports activities, island tourism officials want travel agents and potential visitors to know that the destination has a lot more to offer.

“On Bonaire there is a consensus that our cherished diving market should be one of several pillars sustaining our tourism industry,” said Ethsel Pieternella, director of tourism for Tourism Corporation Bonaire. “Bonaire is also known for its safe, clean, ecological, unspoiled and family-friendly atmosphere. In combination with world-class cuisine, authenticity, heritage and friendly people, Bonaire offers a refreshing and different product as opposed to competing destinations.”

Following are new developments around the island.

At Rancho Washikemba, guests can discover Bonaire from the back of a horse. Schedule riding lessons at the ranch or explore the island on one of two different two-hour horseback trail rides.

Plaza Beach Resort Bonaire, which has been converted into an all-inclusive resort, is offering packages with or without diving. Both options include all meals, snacks, beverages, activities, entertainment and water sports. The all-inclusive dive package provides divers with unlimited shore dives or boat trips.

Wanapa Lodge Bonaire is a new boutique hotel built in traditional Antillean country-house style. The lodge is comprised of five studios, six luxury rooms and one private apartment. Wanapa has a pool with a deck, rooftop terrace and bar. Wi-Fi is available throughout the property.

Captain Don’s Habitat Bonaire has added an SDI e-learning option so that guests interested in scuba diving can complete the classroom portion of their Open Water Diver course online before they arrive in Bonaire. Once guests arrive they can complete two days of open water training to become certified divers.
