The Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) will mount a first-of-its-kind CTO Leadership Strategy Conference in Barbados from Oct. 8-11.The host hotel for the event is the Hilton Barbados.

“A conference of this caliber is a first in CTO’s history,” said Sylma Brown Bramble, CTO director of marketing. “Listening to the feedback from our partners and member nations at the CTO Council of Ministers Meeting in New York this past June underscored the importance of hosting an event of this magnitude; it is vital for the continuing evolution of our efforts to increase and improve tourism to the region.”

The event coincides with the CTO elections, during which a new chairman will be elected and allied members will choose five people to represent the region’s interest on the CTO board of directors, along with one representative to serve on the executive committee.

Tourism ministers, commissioners and directors of tourism are scheduled to attend, as well as senior officials of tourism-related industries, including labor unions, airlines, airport authorities, hoteliers and other private sector partners.

The conference will kick off with a keynote address by Willie Walsh, CEO of British Airways. Walsh will highlight the future of intercontinental travel and the importance of partnerships between airlines and the destinations they serve. Other industry heavy weights presenting to the CTO delegation include Henry Harteveldt, principal analyst of Forrester Travel Research Group, and renowned branding expert Tom Buncle.

Those who book by Sept. 18 receive an early bird discount of $100. As an added incentive, American Airlines and JetBlue Airways are offering attendees special discounts when traveling to the Barbados conference.

American Airlines will give travelers the lowest published fares waiving advance purchase, minimum/maximum stays, seasonal and weekday restrictions. To qualify, reservations must be made by calling 866-269-5008.

JetBlue is offering CTO Leadership Strategy Conference delegates an exclusive 10 percent discount. This offer is available from any JetBlue city to Barbados for those traveling Oct. 6-13. Conference-goers must visit JetBlue.com/Promo and enter CTOBARBADOS code upon booking.
