Fave Five Things to Do in Jamaica

Managing Editor Janeen Christoff shares her Fave Five activities

Climbing Dunn’s River Falls

A fun activity while in Ocho Rios is taking a taxi to Dunn’s River Falls Park and hiking the falls. Adventurous guests can climb the falls in a human chain on a guided walk upriver. Guests gather at the guide center to be escorted to the bottom of the falls, where they form a human chain and slowly climb the rocky face of the river. A great team-building exercise for family and groups, the whole climb takes about one hour from bottom to top.

Swimming With Horses

Managing Editor Janeen Christoff enjoys an afternoon horseback riding in JamaicaRhodes Hall Plantation just outside of Negril offers several different horseback riding excursions, including two guided rides. One of the best is a beach ride, perfect for hot summer afternoons. Clients enjoy a leisurely ride along a two-mile stretch of sand, traversing the shoreline, mangrove and a crocodile reserve. Toward the end, the horses make their way into the sea and take their riders for a casual swim before heading back to the stable.

Rick’s Cafe

The world-famous Rick’s Cafe is an icon in Negril. The Cliffside restaurant has transformed from a local haunt to one of Negril’s most sought after hot spots. From cliffs that rise 40 feet out of the water, brave men and women dive into the sea below. And, a nearby tree provides local, experienced divers with an even higher mount from which to plunge into the deep blue water. Whether visiting to try a dive, sailing by or just enjoying a Red Stripe at sunset, Rick’s is truly the place to while away some time while in Negril.

Bob Marley Tour

The Bob Marley Movement’s tour of Nine Mile, Bob Marley’s birthplace, takes clients through the life of the legendary musician.. The tour starts with a walk through the house Marley lived in as a young boy. And a Rastafarian guide shares little-known insights into Marley's childhood and musical career. Clients have a chance to stand on 'Mt. Zion Rock' (Marley’s meditation spot) and rest their head on the 'Pillow' made famous in the song “Talking Blues.” The tour highlight is walking through the beautiful mausoleum, Marley’s final resting place.
