Often, an innovative ship design leads to the transformation of a company’s entire fleet. When Celebrity Cruises’ Solstice class debuted in 2008, it was a dramatic game-changer, and the line instituted a fleet renovation called “Solsticizing” in 2010 that brought as many of the new features as possible to its earlier ships.
With another leap in design coming out next year — on the new 2,900-passenger Celebrity Edge — the company is not waiting. Using Edge as a launch pad, Celebrity is embarking on “Celebrity Revolution,” a $400 million program of fleetwide modernization for its nine ships. The refurbishment will include completely new stateroom designs with bathroom upgrades, optimized storage space (using design elements that appear on Edge) and features such as cashmere mattresses and bedding.
Celebrity Revolution will run from 2019 through 2023, with sweeping changes to both the Millennium- and Solstice-class ships. Celebrity Millennium and Celebrity Solstice will be first in line for the renovations, and guests will see a real difference as the refreshed vessels emerge.
“We’re not just redesigning the staterooms; we’re tearing them down and building them back up,” said Brian Abel, vice president of hotel operations for Celebrity.
In addition, suite guests will have access to a new resort-style sundeck, and Michael's Club — the suite lounge on some ships — will become the renovated Retreat Lounge (which will appear on Edge), a place where guests can relax to live entertainment and enjoy free drinks and snacks. As for dining, Millennium, Celebrity Constellation, Celebrity Infinity and Celebrity Summit will see changes, including new globally influenced menus and extensive upgrades to Oceanview Cafe and the main dining rooms.
