Fresh from 10 months on the road, Joni Rein, Carnival Cruise Line’s vice president of worldwide sales, said that Carnival’s Trade Engagement Team has met with 17,000 travel agents in the past month as part of the feedback supporting Toolbox, a newly launched virtual resource. Bringing together a number of elements for one-stop coverage, the Carnival Toolbox addresses 14 different business models, according to Rein.
Among the new elements expected to cause the most buzz is the travel partner rewards program, in which agents earn and redeem points toward a variety of Carnival-branded gifts and Apple iPads. Points are earned by creating new bookings and servicing existing bookings on GoCCL.com [link to www.goccl.com], completing Carnival Cruise Lines University training, attending fam trips, ship visits and other resources. For example, completing the CCLU Bachelor’s of Fun earns 2,000 points and participating in the From Your Home to Ours intensive, three-day immersion, which will expand in 2012, yields 300 points. Agents can redeem 3,000 points for a canvas tote bag and 100,000 points for an iPad.
In addition, Carnival is introducing new group deposit enhancements into the Toolbox. Agent feedback produced a much simpler cancellation policy and terms of deposit. The deposit policy of $25 per person was changed from 30 to 60 days after blocking space for most itineraries. For large groups, the line is simplifying the terms of deposit regardless of ship, cruise length or itinerary. In addition, Carnival is introducing new penalty guidelines if a large group modification is made 240 days prior to sailing.
The Cruise Party in a Box kit, soft launched earlier in the year, contains ingredients for hosting an at-home selling party, along with “Fun-damentals,” a tri-fold marketing piece filled with information on ships, destinations and itineraries and “Fun-decks,” a unique new deck plan tool, e-brochures and marketing videos.
